Base
The house was started with a 4 ft by 4 ft 3/4 inch plywood. A 4X4 post was put under each side and a 2X4 in the middle, which were all treated lumber.
Wall Framing
The walls were framed first with reclaimed 2x4s. A diagram is below for how the wall were framed.
Rafter Framing and Sheathing
Three rafters were built with the pattern below and attached to the walls. The sheathing was cut and install next, which it takes 2 full 4X8 sheets of plywood for the walls.
Paint
We picked up some Kilz exterior paint for the outside of the dog house. The kids selected the color and actually both agreed. It went on very good with 2 coats and took about 1/2 a gallon.
Shingles
The roof was covered with house wrap and then shingles. Premium 25 year three tab shingles from Owens Corning were used because of low cost and durability. Our dog Shadow loves it and often shares it with his stray cat friends.
