It is often difficult to find a good quality desk for your home office, but a few tools you can create a custom desk for your home office.
What You'll Need
- A pre-glued slab of wood.
- Foam brush
- Stain
- Polyurethane
- Jigsaw with wood blade
- Router with bits
- 220 grit sandpaper
01 Trim
For this project, a 1"X 24" X 48" piece of edge glued pine was chosen for the desk top. You will need to measure your desk to determine the size you need. A half moon cutout was made in the back with a jigsaw to allow cords to go through along the wall.
02 Route
Using a router and 2 bits the top edge was routed with a 3/8" round over and 1/8" on the bottom edge. The complete surface was sanded with 220 grit sandpaper.
03 Stain
The same stain(Minwax Espresso) was chosen as used on the trim in my addition project which can be seen here. All coatings were applied with a foam brush to give an even finish.
04 Clearcoat
Three coats of polyurethane were used on the top to protect it from wear and scratches. A satin clear by Minwax was used to keep the reflection down but give it a smooth finish. It came out great and is a perfect work surface for a laptop or writing.
