Home Addition DIY Project - Concrete Basement and Block Foundation

Basement and Pad

We had a basement poured for the storm shelter. It has 8 inch thick walls with steel and fiber reinforcement. The wall height is 8.5 feet so you have lots of head room.

We also had a concrete pad and footings poured for the other crawl space area. I choose to put concrete in the crawl space to keep it cleaner and drier. It also makes is so much better when you need to go do work under there. The office and bathroom will be above this space.

Block Foundation

Next step was the foundation which we used 8x8x16 block and type S mortar. We had to fill in the perimeter and the gap between the basement and the old foundation. You can see we were working in the hot sun and needed some shade. LOL

The anchor bolts were set in concrete and rebar was put in the block cell. The full column of block was filled under the anchors with concrete. Here is the finished step.
